When you meet Bev, you’ll agree that she is a business woman to the core. Her goal was to create a group that deals exclusively in Lake Lanier property but with a businesslike, market-oriented approach. With the motto “…when you’re ready for the good life!” the logical name was The Good Life Group. It is part of the group’s mission statement for each team member to be professional in every way, accessible (yes, they do answer their phones), up-to-date on any issues regarding Lake Lanier, and an exceptional resource to buyers and sellers of lake property.
A rare native Atlantan, Bev grew up visiting Lake Lanier. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a business degree in Information Systems and minors in both marketing and management. She spent many years in the software industry performing a variety of tasks; and, in time, went into consulting. She helped software and communications companies set up training, documentation, product marketing, usability studies, testing, product design and much more. Eventually, she opened her own firm, BGK Design Services, where she assisted small businesses with web design and marketing. Once her children went off to college, she and her husband moved up to their dream home on Lake Lanier (in the hopes of giving the kids a reason to come home more often…which worked!) She fell in love with the area and started investing in lake property. She discovered a deep love for real estate, and decided to get her license. Now, she is a specialist in lake property, loves it, and she uses her marketing and Internet background as a tool to get the word out about her properties. She does not consider herself a salesperson at all. Instead, she is a problem-solver, and her clients appreciate the distinction between those two approaches.
Bev is married to Tim Knight who owns Knight Commercial Real Estate, a commercial real estate company that specializes in retail developments. The Knights have two wonderful sons, Matt and Chris. Matt graduated from Davidson College in Charlotte, NC where he played baseball (pitcher) and majored in Economics and Spanish. He is the owner of Blackhawk Capital, a firm that funds business deals, especially commercial real estate. He is married to former volleyball star Emily Adams Knight, and they have two precious little boys. Chris graduated from Georgia State where he majored in Finance and Entrepreneurship. He is now a top notch builder specializing in residential construction in some of the red-hot areas of Atlanta. The whole family loves spending time on the lake.
In her spare time, Bev Knight likes to dance, especially line dancing and salsa. She is also active in her church where she sometimes teaches Sunday School. An avid reader, she helped to start a book club in her neighborhood. She loves people, enjoys real estate, and works very hard to make sure that her clients’ needs are served. Dani Brown, joined The Good Life Group in December of 2010. (She pronounces her name like “Dana.”) She moved to Lake Lanier in 2006 with two adorable little boys. She was raised in Blue Ridge, Georgia and attended North Georgia College and State University. When you meet Dani, you will be drawn to her positive energy, ability to listen, and market knowledge. Dani decided to get into real estate after spending a summer working at an attorney’s office. She felt like it was the ideal job for her personality and skill set. She loves interacting with people, seeing new scenery (especially great homes), and negotiating the best deal for her clients. Because she is a very good listener, she has enjoyed great success finding the right home for her clients and has been a multi-million dollar producer. Before she joined The Good Life Group, she had eight years of experience selling real estate and three years as a licensed broker. Dani originally took on the role as an investment property specialist with The Good Life Group and has done a great job. Not surprisingly, Dani’s favorite pass-time is playing with her little boys. She loves being a mom and has proudly served as president of the Mount Vernon Elementary School PTSA. In the fall of 2014, The Good Life Group was very proud to announce its newest team member, Darlene Plavcan. A native Georgian and long time Lake Lanier resident, Darlene has a first-hand knowledge of this market including all the joys and responsibilities of lake property ownership. She and her husband Dennis spent many years remodeling and restoring homes in this area as well as in Florida. Through that experience, she became an expert in investment property, staging, and renovation issues. They continue to own and manage several successful rental properties, so she has an in-depth understanding of the great potential as well as the challenges of that business.
All of Darlene’s professional experience has lead to her proficiency in real estate. For many years, she owned and managed an interior design firm and floor-covering company. She grew up in the middle of the Milton horse country and has lived north of the Atlanta Perimeter her entire life; so, the GA 400 corridor comprises familiar territory for this home-grown girl. She graduated from the University of Georgia and the Terry College of Business with a degree in Risk Management and Insurance. She has always possessed an entrepreneurial spirit and a keen sense of business. Founder of an auto insurance agency and partner in an online inspirational gift site are just two of the many hats she has worn over the years. Additionally, she worked with a sports agent handling off-field marketing for some of the biggest names in baseball. While she has navigated many career interests, Donilyn has always been drawn to the real estate business. The newest member of our team is our vivacious Marketing Coordinator, Jamie Bishop. A licensed agent, Jamie brings an abundance of energy, enthusiasm, and positivity to our group. She graduated from Southern Polytechnic State where she majored in Construction Management / Development. She has worked in a variety of real estate-related jobs, but definitely found her calling as the Marketing Coordinator for the GLG. Her duties could fill a book, but in essence, she is the glue that keeps us all together. She creates marketing literature, updates web sites, manages mail campaigns, coordinates sign installations, handles our social media posts, and oversees all of our schedules. She occasionally shows property for the team members, checks on weekend homes for our clients, and basically fills in for the GLG agents whenever she is needed. She is great at what she does, and we are so blessed to have her on our team.
Most people would describe Jamie as a social butterfly. She has never met a stranger, and is pretty much loved by all. She is an avid scuba diver and enjoys all manner of water sports. Originally from Valdosta, she grew up just a short drive from several lakes as well as the ocean, so that is where her love of the water was born.
